This sunscreen did not start in a lab. It was developed by outdoor guides, sailors, and kayakers – the ones who MUST have sun protection in demanding water environments.

It took six years and 66 formulations, and brought some tears. At one point our founder Becky walked away from the project for a year. The PhDs couldn’t help, the labs couldn’t help.

It hadn’t been done before – zinc-based, no-water formula that stays silky, not sticky or chalky.

The break was the breakthrough. Picking it back up, she realised what zinc needs to ‘play nice with the other kids’. Go persistence!
